Reduce medical costs with an affordable Virginia health insurance plan that isn’t insurance at all

Medical costs can have a major impact on an individual’s financial well-being. According to a recent study from the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), around 4 in 10 American adults reported that health care costs like medical and dental bills have resulted in them owing money to banks, credit card companies, collection agencies, and other lenders. Health insurance is designed to lighten the financial load of expensive medical care. But often, the price of insurance plans can create a heavy financial burden. If you’re interested in an affordable 2022 health coverage alternative that reduces expenses and makes paying for care simple, now’s the time to consider becoming a CrowdHealth Member in Virginia.

At CrowdHealth, our goal is to simplify the process of acquiring and paying for care in 2022 and beyond. Rather than dig yourself into debt by accumulating financial burdens as an uninsured person in Virginia — or paying for a health insurance plan that requires an expensive deductible and endless out-of-pocket expenses — it’s better to consider one of our affordable 2022 health plans. We take a unique crowdfunding approach to paying for care. And this doesn’t mean you’ll need to set up a GoFundMe account to raise money. Instead, our Members make monthly contributions to a health fund that is used to pay each other’s medical bills.

Using CrowdHealth as an alternative to VA health insurance or regular health insurance can help you save on medical expenses while also giving you more freedom when selecting care providers and paying for coverage. Our process is simple. Just share your medical bills with us, and we’ll cover your health expenses. Continue reading to learn more about why signing up for one of our CrowdHealth plans is a great choice.

How is crowdfunding different from health insurance?

There are a lot of differences between crowdfunding plans and health insurance plans in Virginia. First, there is no special period during which you can become a CrowdHealth Member. Health insurance requires you to wait until open enrollment to pick a plan whether through an employer or from another health insurance marketplace. This can be stressful for busy adults who often have little time to search through dozens of Virginia insurance plan options. Not to mention that plans can’t be acquired or altered following open enrollment. Only special circumstances allow consumers to buy new plans or alter existing plans during special enrollment periods.

Most traditional health plans require customers to pay a deductible before their insurance benefits can begin. Like enrollment periods, deductibles can serve as a source of stress for consumers. The KFF recently revealed that half of adults (ages 18-64) with self-purchased or employer-sponsored health plans that include the highest deductibles say that they or someone in the family put off getting care due to cost. If you join the CrowdHealth Community, you can avoid annoying deductibles. The moment you acquire a 2022 CrowdHealth health plan, you and your family immediately begin receiving the benefits of your Membership.

You might wonder if CrowdHealth plans offer the same guarantees as Virginia insurance plans. The answer is no. The reason that we can’t offer guarantees like health insurance plans in Virginia is that we aren’t health insurance, which is a good thing! Insurance companies are regulated by the government and face restrictions like enrollment periods, visit limitations, and networks that crowdfunding plans can avoid. Interestingly enough, despite offering their customers guarantees, insurance companies often deny benefits claims, essentially leaving health costs in the laps of their customers.

Are crowdfunded health care plans more affordable than insurance plans?

At CrowdHealth, we understand that health insurance costs in Virginia and around the country are not always affordable. In 2022, the average monthly health insurance premium for a benchmark plan for an adult in Virginia was $450. Our goal is always to reduce your healthcare expenses. Providing healthcare coverage via crowdfunding plans enables us to cut costs in a variety of ways. One of the biggest savings you’ll experience is via your monthly costs.

All of our crowdfunding health plan rates are based on the age of the coverage recipient. For a person aged 6-54, coverage will cost $175 per month. Members can also purchase a health plan that includes 4 to 8 family members for the affordable price of just $695 per month. Our ability to offer health plans that are less expensive than many 2022 insurance options in Virginia is one of the many benefits of crowdfunding.

But before acquiring a 2022 CrowdHealth Membership, it’s good to gain greater insight into our Membership plans, including how your monthly health contributions will be utilized. After we receive your monthly health plan payment, we will use $30 of your coverage contribution as an administration fee. The rest will be placed directly into your Health Funding Account. With CrowdHealth, you never have to worry about your plan contributions being used for anything other than health-related expenses. Securing a 2022 crowdfunding plan allows you to take control of the cost of your care.

It’s easy to pay for crowdfunding health care in Virginia

If you have acquired health marketplace or employer-sponsored insurance plans in the past and would like to move away from the health insurance model, securing a 2022 Virginia crowdfunding health plan is a great choice. We understand wanting to avoid the headache of enrollment periods, deductibles, networks, and other requirements that can impact which insurance plans you choose and which doctors you’re able to see.

Not only is our process of securing health plans easier, but we have streamlined the process of paying for care as well. When you’re with an insurance company, it’s common to fret over a copayment or worry about how much you’ll be charged for coinsurance after a health event. With CrowdHealth, all Members simply pay up to $500 for each health event. So, let’s say you visit your doctor for a routine appointment. When the time comes to pay for your care in the medical office, you will ask your provider for the cash price of the health event. You'll be responsible for charges up to $500. Let us know if your care costs more than $500 by submitting a funding request. The Community fund will pay the amount that exceeds your $500 payment.

Another great reason to switch from traditional Virginia insurance to crowdfunding is our ability to negotiate your expenses. Before visiting your doctor for care, you can tell us about your upcoming bill. We’ll work with your care provider to reduce your expenses by between 30% and 60%. This negotiation process applies to routine visits as well as far more expensive surgeries. If the final bill is large, don’t worry. We will negotiate a payment plan that the Community will pay over a period of months or even years. There is no maximum dollar amount when it comes to health expenses you can share with the Community. Enjoying tremendous savings and Community support are just a few of the amazing perks of crowdfunding healthcare in Virginia.

Who is eligible for crowdfunding health coverage in Virginia?

Our goal at CrowdHealth is to serve as a viable alternative to health insurance in Virginia. We are interested in having as many people join our Community as possible. Currently, we provide coverage for most individuals aged 0 to 64. However, we do have a few limitations. At this time, we do not extend coverage to tobacco users or people who exceed certain weight limitations. Also, we will not provide coverage for specific areas of care or types of treatments or procedures like alternative therapy, cosmetic procedures, fertility treatments, vision or dental care, or long-term prescriptions.

We do, however, offer health plans to people with pre-existing conditions. Here’s how it works. If you or a person in your family has one or more diagnosed or documented health conditions, any health expenses associated with the condition(s) will not be eligible for coverage for the first year of Membership. In the second year, the plan will pay up to $25,000 toward expenses for previously diagnosed or documented conditions. In the third year, Members with pre-existing conditions will receive coverage for up to $50,000. And in year four and beyond, the plan will pay for care associated with these conditions up to $100,000. Any prescriptions, treatments, or procedures tied to a previously diagnosed or documented health condition will face similar health plan restrictions.

Is a medical event like a pregnancy covered by a crowdfunding plan?

If you or someone within your family plan has become pregnant after joining the Community, we are happy to provide coverage in Virginia for this amazing journey. We have a three-phase approach to funding maternity care: 1) prenatal care, 2) labor and delivery, and 3) postpartum care.

These three phases are managed as separate health events in terms of coverage. This means each phase of a Community Member’s maternity will require a $500 commitment for a total commitment of $1,500. Any dollar amount that exceeds the full $1,500 monetary commitment will be paid for through the CrowdHealth Community fund. Keep in mind that a newborn’s care (the first six months post-birth) is not included in maternity care. Instead, it is included in the baby’s Membership after a health plan has been added following their birth.

It’s important to note that an individual who becomes pregnant prior to acquiring a Membership plan is not eligible for funding from the Community. We will, however, provide coverage for their newborn (via a separate plan for the baby) beginning six months after their birth. Our goal is to always be to maintain affordability and viability as an insurance alternative in Virginia. While we’re absolutely invested in providing coverage for all of our Members, it can be difficult to cover the significant cost of labor immediately after a person joins the Community.

Crowdfunding is a unique Virginia health coverage option

When it comes to health insurance, it can be extremely difficult to know what your plans are paying for and how your money is being used. We take pride in making clear how the money in our crowdfunding health plans is being distributed. After collecting the $30 administration fee, you can rest assured that the rest of the funds in your health plan will be used for the medical expenses of yourself, family members in your plan, and other Community Members.

Our crowdfunding plans also give you the opportunity to control how your money is spent. Each time an individual with a Community Membership submits a funding request, crowdfunding dollars are transferred from Community accounts directly into the individual’s account who made the request. It’s important to note that dollars aren’t removed from your account without your permission. You get to select where your health fund dollars will go.

Of course, our goal is to help as many Members as possible, and we can’t do what without help from the Community. So, as a part of the plans we offer, Members are given a “Generosity Score,” which alerts others in the Community of your willingness to help Members in need. The more generous you are, the higher your “Generosity Score” will be. Other plan Members will be able to see your score each time you submit a health funding request, which can help them decide whether to reciprocate your generosity.

The perks of securing crowdfunding plans with CrowdHealth are tremendous. Being able to control all aspects of your plan makes crowdfunding totally different from traditional Virginia health insurance coverage. It’s even different from a singular fundraising campaign since everyone in the community is committed to making an ongoing effort to meet each other’s healthcare needs.

The benefits of Virginia crowdfunding plans are endless

When securing a standard health insurance policy in Virginia, you likely have a lot of items to cross off your list of insurance plan needs. You might have to take the time to compare plans over several days or weeks to find low-cost coverage. You could also need to find a plan offering a low deductible, few out-of-pocket expenses, and great benefits like a health rewards plan and a broad network of care providers that allows you to see your preferred doctor, hospital, or care facility of your choice. If you find one or more insurance plans that suit your needs, you might worry about meeting other marketplace or employer-sponsored insurance plan requirements like income maximums, enrollment period deadlines, or care provider visit limitations.

At CrowdHealth, we aim to remove roadblocks to quality health care, which is why we allow you to see any care providers you desire without concerns about networks. But the perks of our coverage don’t end there. With our Membership plans, you can enjoy low monthly plan contributions, unlimited virtual health, unlimited talk therapy, discounted prescriptions, and personal care advocacy. Securing an individual or family plan with CrowdHealth can ensure your health needs and budget are always on the right track.
