Purpose

To create data-driven tools to improve our operations, help our members shop for the best value care, and help members better understand their medical bills

Scope

The data team is focused on improving operational efficiency, developing educated and confident members, and keeping costs low for the crowd.

  • Processing submitted bills to allow Operations to focus manual efforts on the most complex bills
  • Building processes to help the Operations team to have substantial data easily accessible to help manage workloads
  • Forecasting and managing health event economics
  • Lowering health care costs by identifying and promoting well-informed, high-quality, fairly-priced options
  • Helping Members experience health care freedom as happily uninsured, cash pay patients

Responsibilities

Operations Enablement

  • Creating and maintaining easy-to-use dashboards in Metabase to get each member of the Operations team timely access to the most important data for their specific roles and members

Fair Pricing

  • Benchmarking bills against Medicare and local cash prices
  • Collecting and presenting relevant comparative cash prices to compare against member estimates
  • Analyzing available cash prices to determine what a fair price is in a market

Bill Processing

  • Translating medical bills into clean structured data to aid speedy processing
  • Creating automated tests to validate the quality of structured data

Outcome

We build a suite of new tools that reduces average manual bill processing time by Operations. We deliver concrete results quickly and iterate over time to improve our work. We listen to the end users of our products, take their complaints seriously, and find creative ways to fix those problems. We are not constrained by the ways things currently work and constantly push the boundaries by using the latest data and tools to make things better and to make better things.

Qualifications

At least 3 years in similar data-centric roles with a focus on solving practical problems with data

Skills and Background

  • Experience working in healthcare claims data (or some equivalent), with a clear understanding of how the medical billing system operates
  • Experience building data products – building tools with data that solve real problems
  • Experience as a full-stack analyst – you can do everything from loading your data, to designing the table infrastructure, to running the analysis, and presenting the results.
  • A will to find the answer, even if the path isn’t immediately clear
  • Strict attention to detail – we shouldn’t have to catch your mistakes
  • Curiosity about numbers, and a drive to find out the real-life answers that drive them
  • Strong background in data tools, such as SQL, Excel, and Python.
  • Comfort with modern AI tools and how to use them to accelerate good analysis

Job Type: Full-time

Compensation & Benefits

  • Full Time - annual salary of $105,000 + equity
